Troops operating under Operation FANSAN YAMMA have killed a suspected terrorist during a military operation in Sokoto State and rescued six members of a family from an attempted abduction in Zamfara State.
The separate operations were conducted as security forces continued efforts to disrupt terrorist and kidnapping activities across Nigeria’s North-West.
According to reports published on Sunday, September 27, troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, carried out an operation around Karani village in Gudu Local Government Area of Sokoto State after receiving intelligence about suspected terrorist activity in the area.
Suspected Terrorist Killed in Sokoto
The troops reportedly encountered the suspected terrorists during the operation and engaged them.
One suspected terrorist was killed during the encounter, while other members of the group reportedly escaped into surrounding forest areas.
The operation also resulted in the recovery of an AK-47 rifle loaded with live ammunition, an operational motorcycle, military camouflage uniforms, maintenance equipment and other logistical items, according to the account published by Punch.
The 8 Division of the Nigerian Army said the troops responded with decisive firepower during the engagement.
Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osoba, spokesman for the 8 Division, said the operation demonstrated the troops’ efforts to disrupt terrorist activities and restrict the movement of armed groups in the area.
Following the encounter, troops launched additional clearance operations in surrounding forest areas in an effort to prevent fleeing members of the group from regrouping.
The military’s account indicates that the operation was part of continuing efforts to maintain pressure on terrorist groups operating in parts of the North-West.
Six Family Members Rescued in Zamfara
In a separate operation in Zamfara State, troops operating under Operation FANSAN YAMMA foiled an attempted kidnapping in Tsafe Local Government Area.
According to security reporting, troops moved to the area after receiving information about an ongoing attack involving armed terrorists targeting a family.
The troops engaged the attackers, forcing them to withdraw and abandon the six family members.
The victims were rescued unharmed and taken to a secure location before arrangements were made for their safe reunification with relatives.
The Zamfara operation highlights the importance of rapid responses to distress calls in communities affected by kidnapping and other forms of armed criminality.
Continuing Security Operations in the North-West
The latest operations come amid continuing military activity against terrorist and criminal networks operating across parts of Sokoto, Zamfara and neighbouring states.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA is one of the military formations involved in counter-terrorism and counter-kidnapping operations in Nigeria’s North-West.
