The Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN) has sought a medical partnership with the National Hospital Abuja ahead of the 2026 All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT), as preparations intensify for Nigeria’s hosting of the continental women’s golf championship.
LGAN President and Chairperson of the AACT 2026 Local Organising Committee, Dr Lami Onayi Ahmed, made the request during a visit to the National Hospital Abuja on Wednesday, according to a report by Punch.
The proposed partnership is intended to strengthen medical and emergency-response arrangements for the AACT and the Nigeria Ladies Open Championship, which will bring golfers, officials and other participants to Abuja.
LGAN Requests Medical Support
Ahmed asked the National Hospital Abuja to serve as a principal medical partner for both tournaments.
Under the proposed arrangement, LGAN is seeking access to an equipped ambulance, qualified medical personnel, emergency supplies and established evacuation and referral procedures throughout the competitions.
The association also requested the hospital’s support for the tournament’s medical and safety committee and arrangements for the prompt reception and treatment of participants who may require further medical attention.
The management of the National Hospital Abuja welcomed the request and indicated that it would review the proposal and work with the organisers on appropriate emergency-response arrangements.
The request comes as organisers move into the final stages of preparations for the continental championship.
Nigeria to Host More Than 30 African Countries
Nigeria is scheduled to host the 2026 All Africa Challenge Trophy from November 2 to 7 at the IBB International Golf & Country Club in Abuja.
The official LGAN tournament website describes the AACT as Africa’s premier ladies’ team golf championship, with national teams from across the continent expected to participate.
Organisers expect more than 30 African national delegations to attend the championship, alongside diplomats, government representatives, officials and members of the international media.
The tournament will be followed by the Nigeria Ladies Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship from November 7 to 10 at the same venue.
The combination of the continental team championship and the national open means that medical planning will cover an extended period of competition and related activities.
Broader Preparations Underway
The medical partnership request is part of wider preparations for the Abuja championship.
Earlier preparations have included engagements between LGAN and several government institutions and organisations.
The National Sports Commission has backed Nigeria’s hosting of the tournament, while LGAN has also pursued partnerships involving tourism, culture, energy, legislative institutions and media organisations.
In June, LGAN also sought a partnership with the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy to use the championship to promote Nigerian tourism, culture and investment opportunities. The ministry said it would review the proposal and consider areas of collaboration.
These engagements reflect the organisers’ effort to prepare for an event that will bring participants from several African countries to Nigeria.
Why Medical Preparedness Matters
Major international sporting competitions require medical arrangements that can respond to routine injuries as well as emergencies involving players, officials, support staff and other participants.
For the AACT, the proposed relationship with the National Hospital Abuja would provide the organisers with access to established medical infrastructure and emergency-response capabilities.
The request for an ambulance, medical personnel, emergency supplies and referral procedures also points to the need for clearly defined arrangements before competition begins.
The medical component is particularly relevant because the tournament is expected to attract a large international delegation and will be followed immediately by another major women’s golf competition.

The 2026 AACT is expected to provide a continental platform for women’s amateur golf and will bring national teams together in Abuja.
LGAN’s official tournament platform says the event will also feature a Supporters Game and the Nigeria Ladies Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship, extending the programme beyond the main team competition.
Nigeria’s hosting role has also attracted support from government institutions.
The National Sports Commission previously described the hosting as consistent with efforts to develop Nigeria’s sports economy and strengthen the country’s capacity to stage international sporting events.
The event therefore carries sporting and organisational significance beyond the competition itself, particularly for the development and visibility of women’s golf in Nigeria and across Africa.

The immediate next step for the proposed medical partnership is for the National Hospital Abuja to review LGAN’s request and determine the appropriate emergency-response arrangements.
Meanwhile, organisers will continue preparations for the November championships, including medical services, security, transportation, accommodation, accreditation, competition management and other operational requirements.
With the AACT scheduled for November 2–7 and the Nigeria Ladies Open following from November 7–10, organisers face a closely connected sequence of international and national golf events in Abuja.
The successful completion of the medical planning will form part of the wider preparations required to ensure that players, officials and other participants have access to appropriate emergency and referral services throughout the competitions.
