Paris Saint-Germain strengthened their position at the top of the French Ligue 1 table after recording an emphatic 5-1 victory over Le Havre on Friday, October 30, with Moroccan defender Achraf Hakimi delivering a remarkable hat-trick at the Stade Océane.
The defending champions recovered from an early setback to dominate the ninth-round encounter, with Hakimi producing the outstanding individual performance of the evening as Paris extended their advantage in the title race.
Le Havre initially threatened to disrupt PSG’s plans when Nigerian-born striker Josh Maja opened the scoring in the 18th minute. However, the visitors responded quickly, turning the match around before half-time and adding three more goals after the break.
The victory took PSG to 20 points from nine league matches, consolidating their position at the top of the standings.
Le Havre Strike First Before PSG Respond
Despite entering the encounter as favourites, PSG were initially caught off guard by Le Havre’s attacking approach.
The home side took the lead through Maja, who finished a move to put his team ahead in the 18th minute.
The goal briefly raised hopes of a positive result for Le Havre, who were struggling near the bottom of the league standings.
However, PSG responded with greater attacking intensity.
Belgian forward Mika Godts restored parity in the 26th minute after receiving an opportunity created by Hakimi.
Just two minutes later, the Moroccan international put PSG ahead, completing the turnaround with a decisive attacking contribution that gave the visitors a 2-1 advantage.
The quick response changed the direction of the contest and allowed Luis Enrique’s side to approach the remainder of the match with greater control.
Hakimi Completes Hat-Trick in Outstanding Performance
Hakimi continued his impressive display after the restart, extending PSG’s advantage in the 55th minute.
The right-back converted a free-kick with a well-directed effort that beat Le Havre goalkeeper Arnaud Bodart, giving the visitors a two-goal cushion.
His performance demonstrated the attacking influence he brings to PSG, particularly through forward runs, movement and his ability to contribute directly to scoring opportunities.
PSG increased their advantage further in the 62nd minute when Senny Mayulu scored the team’s fourth goal.
Mayulu capitalised on a poor decision by the Le Havre goalkeeper during a PSG counterattack, finishing into an exposed goal to make it 4-1.
Hakimi then completed his hat-trick in the 69th minute, sealing the comprehensive victory.
The goal marked a significant personal milestone for the Moroccan defender, who recorded the first hat-trick of his professional career.
Hakimi was subsequently substituted as Luis Enrique managed his players during the closing stages.
His contribution extended beyond the three goals, as he also provided assists for Godts and Mayulu, meaning he was directly involved in all five PSG goals.
PSG Maintain Position at the Top of Ligue 1
The victory was important for PSG beyond the individual achievement of Hakimi.
The French champions entered the ninth round as league leaders and strengthened their position with the three points collected in Normandy.
PSG moved to 20 points after nine matches, establishing a four-point advantage over Rennes, who suffered a 5-2 defeat against Nice on the same evening.
The result provided additional breathing space for Luis Enrique’s team as the competition continued.
PSG’s ability to secure a convincing away victory despite rotating several players also demonstrated the depth available within their squad.
The team was without some important attacking options, including Ousmane Dembélé and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who were unavailable because of injuries.
Other established players, including Vitinha, João Neves and Désiré Doué, were also rested or remained on the bench.
Nevertheless, the available players delivered a convincing performance, with Hakimi taking responsibility for much of the attacking output.
Le Havre’s Struggles Continue
For Le Havre, the defeat represented another difficult result in an increasingly challenging Ligue 1 campaign.
The club remained at the bottom of the standings after failing to secure a victory in its opening nine league matches.
Although Josh Maja gave the home supporters an early reason for optimism, the team’s defensive difficulties became increasingly apparent as PSG exploited spaces and created opportunities.
The result also highlighted the difference in attacking quality and squad depth between the two sides.
Le Havre will need to improve its defensive organisation and consistency if it hopes to move away from the relegation positions.
What the Result Means for PSG
Hakimi’s performance provides another example of the growing importance of attacking full-backs in modern football.
Traditionally expected to prioritise defensive responsibilities, players operating in that position are increasingly influential in creating and finishing scoring opportunities.
The Moroccan international demonstrated that versatility against Le Havre, combining defensive positioning with forward movement, accurate finishing and creative passing.
His hat-trick also offered PSG an important attacking solution at a time when several regular forwards were unavailable.
For Luis Enrique, the performance will provide encouragement ahead of the club’s next European assignment.
PSG are scheduled to face Villarreal in the UEFA Champions League on November 3, 2026, as they continue their European campaign.
The victory over Le Havre therefore provided both valuable league points and an opportunity to maintain momentum before returning to continental competition.
For Le Havre, attention will turn towards finding a way to end its winless run and improve its position in the French top flight.
