Five people have been rescued after a multiple-vehicle crash at Otedola Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Lagos State, with emergency responders deployed to evacuate the vehicles and restore traffic movement.
The Lagos State Police Command said no fatality had been recorded in the incident as of the latest update on Wednesday, September 16, 2026. Police, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and officials of the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation were at the scene coordinating the response.
Multiple Vehicles Involved in Crash
The collision occurred at Otedola Bridge, a major section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway used by thousands of commuters and commercial vehicles travelling between Lagos and Ogun State.
Reports from the scene indicate that several vehicles were involved in the crash, leaving vehicles damaged and requiring emergency evacuation.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) also reported that its response team attended the incident and rescued people trapped in the vehicles. Another report identified five vehicles involved, including two trucks, a trailer, a white Honda and a Lexus.
The Lagos State Police Command subsequently confirmed that five people had been rescued alive, with no death recorded at the time of its update.
Emergency Agencies Coordinate Rescue Operation
Several government agencies moved to the scene as efforts intensified to secure the area, rescue those affected and remove the damaged vehicles.
The Lagos State Police Command, FRSC, LASTMA and the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation were represented at the scene.
The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, CP Tijani Fatai, was reported to be at the location alongside the FRSC Lagos State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kehinde Hamzat.
The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, Olawale Musa, and LASTMA General Manager Bakare Oki were also reported to be involved in the traffic management and evacuation operation.
LASEMA said its LRT Tiger Squad stationed at C3 was dispatched following a distress call and arrived at the scene shortly afterwards.
Traffic Disruption Along Major Corridor
The accident has added to an already difficult traffic situation along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The corridor has been experiencing significant congestion around Kara Bridge and adjoining routes because of ongoing repair work, with a separate multiple-vehicle crash at Kara Bridge recently worsening the situation.
Traffic authorities have been deployed to manage movement and reduce the impact of the disruptions.
LASTMA has advised motorists using the corridor to exercise caution and follow instructions from traffic management officials while recovery operations continue.
Otedola Bridge Is a Critical Transport Route
Otedola Bridge forms part of the heavily travelled Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, one of the principal road corridors connecting Lagos with Ogun State and other parts of southwestern Nigeria.
