Sync Finance Company Limited has appointed entrepreneur and Landmark Africa Group Chief Executive Officer Paul Onwuanibe as Chairman of its Board of Directors, following the receipt of a no-objection from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
The appointment was approved by the company’s Board of Directors and took effect on October 1, 2026, according to a statement issued by Sync Finance Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Ikenna Imo.
The appointment places Onwuanibe, a prominent figure in Nigeria’s real estate, hospitality and leisure sectors, at the head of the board as Sync Finance enters what the company described as its next phase of growth.
Paul Onwuanibe joins Sync Finance board leadership
Onwuanibe is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Landmark Africa Group, a company headquartered in Victoria Island, Lagos, with interests spanning lifestyle, hospitality, leisure and real estate development.
Landmark Africa’s official profile identifies Onwuanibe as its Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer. The company says its operations have grown since its establishment in 1997, with developments including Landmark Towers and other mixed-use lifestyle and hospitality destinations.
Sync Finance said his experience includes strategic leadership, investment and building and scaling businesses in Nigeria and internationally.
The company also highlighted his academic background, including master’s degrees in architecture, environmental design and planning, and construction management.
Onwuanibe outlines priorities as chairman
Reacting to his appointment, Onwuanibe said he was honoured to take on the chairmanship and expressed his intention to work with the board, management and employees to strengthen the company’s governance and expand its services.
He also said the company would continue pursuing sustainable growth while operating in line with applicable regulatory standards.
His appointment comes with the regulatory clearance required from the CBN, an important element in the leadership change at the financial services company.
Sync Finance welcomes new chairman
Imo said the company was pleased to welcome Onwuanibe to the board leadership, pointing to his experience in building businesses and his understanding of Nigeria’s business environment.
According to the managing director, that experience would support Sync Finance as it works on the next stage of its development and continues providing financial solutions to customers.
The board and management of Sync Finance also congratulated Onwuanibe on his appointment.
Onwuanibe’s business background
Onwuanibe has built his career primarily around real estate, business development and the creation of mixed-use commercial and lifestyle destinations.
Landmark Africa describes itself as a lifestyle, hospitality and leisure destination company, with its headquarters in Victoria Island, Lagos. Its official profile lists Onwuanibe as the company’s Executive Director and CEO.
His business career has also included experience outside Nigeria. Nairametrics reported in a profile of the entrepreneur that he previously worked with Beacon Housing in the United Kingdom and Regus before establishing the business that became Landmark.
His educational background includes architecture and postgraduate studies in construction management, environmental design and property development, as well as an MBA from London Business School, according to published profiles.
What the appointment means for Sync Finance
The appointment brings an experienced business executive from the property and hospitality sectors into the board leadership of a financial services company.
For Sync Finance, the immediate focus will be on board governance, regulatory compliance, customer services and the company’s broader growth strategy. These priorities are reflected in statements from both Onwuanibe and the company’s management following the appointment.
The CBN’s no-objection is also significant because the appointment of senior leadership at regulated financial institutions is subject to regulatory requirements.
With Onwuanibe now serving as chairman, the company’s board will be responsible for providing oversight as management implements its business strategy and seeks to expand its financial services.
What happens next
Onwuanibe’s tenure as chairman began on October 1, 2026.
The company has indicated that the board and management will focus on strengthening governance, developing its customer services and pursuing sustainable growth within regulatory requirements.
Further developments will depend on the company’s strategy and decisions under its newly constituted board leadership.
