Spain have formally extended head coach Luis de la Fuente’s contract until 2032 following his successful leadership of the national team to the 2026 FIFA World Cup title.
The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) approved the six-year extension on Monday, September 21, 2026, at a meeting of its executive board in Las Rozas, Madrid.
The decision keeps De la Fuente in charge of Spain for the next two European Championships and the 2030 World Cup, which will be staged across Spain, Portugal and Morocco, with Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay also involved in hosting matches.
RFEF Approves Six-Year Extension
The RFEF said its board unanimously approved the extension, ensuring that De la Fuente will remain Spain’s senior men’s national-team coach through 2032.
Federation president Rafael Louzán said the agreement was based on continuity and confidence in the coach and the sporting project he has led.

The federation’s decision came just two months after Spain won the 2026 World Cup, adding the global title to the European Championship secured under De la Fuente in 2024.

De la Fuente guided Spain to their second men’s World Cup title on July 19, when they defeated Argentina 1-0 in the final in New Jersey.
The World Cup victory followed Spain’s triumph at Euro 2024 and its Nations League success in 2023.
According to the RFEF, the three major trophies have made De la Fuente the coach behind one of the most successful periods in the recent history of the Spanish national team.

The extension will keep De la Fuente in charge through Euro 2028, the 2030 World Cup and Euro 2032.
The 2030 World Cup will have a particularly significant connection with Spain, as the country will host the tournament alongside Portugal and Morocco, while Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay will host selected matches.
The 2028 European Championship will provide Spain with its first major tournament under the new contract.
The 2032 European Championship will then mark the end of the extended agreement.

De la Fuente’s Record With Spain
De la Fuente became Spain’s senior national-team coach in December 2022 after previously working within the federation’s youth structures.
