Dr Danielle Adewusi, a medical doctor and women’s health advocate representing Lagos State, has been crowned Miss Universe Nigeria 2026 after emerging from a field of 20 contestants at the national pageant’s grand finale in Lagos on September 28, 2026.
Adewusi’s victory brings her medical career, women’s health advocacy and family connection to Nigerian pageantry into the spotlight, after she entered the competition with a stated ambition to use the platform to promote health education and access to healthcare for women and girls.

Punch reported in August that Adewusi’s mother had won Miss Universe Nigeria 35 years earlier, while QED identified her mother as Tonia Okogbenin, who won the crown in 1991.
Adewusi said her mother’s experience gave her an appreciation for pageantry while she was growing up, although she initially focused primarily on education and medicine.
