The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has launched a nationwide fuel discount promotion offering customers a ₦66 reduction per litre when they purchase petrol through the NNPC Fuel App.

The promotion, which began on October 1, 2026, is scheduled to run until October 7 as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence anniversary.

NNPC Retail said the offer is available to customers using the company’s digital fuel platform at participating NNPC retail stations across the country.

How the ₦66 fuel discount works

Under the promotion, eligible customers who purchase petrol through the NNPC Fuel App can receive a ₦66 discount on every litre purchased during the promotional period.

The initiative is designed to encourage motorists to use the company’s digital platform while providing temporary relief to customers purchasing petrol.

The promotion runs for seven days, meaning motorists have until October 7 to take advantage of the offer, subject to the applicable terms and conditions.

Customers are advised to confirm the availability and specific requirements of the promotion through NNPC Retail’s official communication channels before making their purchases.

NNPC announces ₦30,000 giveaway

The fuel discount is being offered alongside a separate customer-engagement campaign involving cash prizes.

According to reports on the promotion, 50 winners will receive ₦30,000 each in their NNPC Fuel App wallets.

Participants are required to download the NNPC Fuel App and follow the stated campaign instructions, including sharing proof of the download on X, tagging NNPC Retail and using the campaign hashtag #NNPCRetailApp.

The giveaway is separate from the ₦66-per-litre fuel discount, with both forming part of NNPC Retail’s Independence Day promotional activities.

Promotion coincides with Independence Day

The campaign comes as Nigeria marks its 66th Independence anniversary.

NNPC Retail has linked the promotion to the anniversary celebrations while using the occasion to increase customer engagement with its digital services.

The initiative comes against the backdrop of continued public attention on petrol prices and transportation costs in Nigeria.

Since the removal of petrol subsidies, changes in crude oil prices, refining costs, exchange rates, logistics and competition among fuel suppliers have contributed to fluctuations in pump prices.

For motorists, a ₦66 reduction per litre can represent a noticeable short-term saving, particularly for customers purchasing larger quantities.

For example, a motorist buying 40 litres would receive a nominal discount of ₦2,640 if the ₦66-per-litre reduction applies to the entire purchase.

NNPC petrol prices also change in some locations

The promotion comes amid reported adjustments in NNPC Retail pump prices in some parts of Nigeria.

Reports indicated that NNPC stations in Abuja and surrounding areas reduced their displayed petrol price from ₦1,395 to ₦1,370 per litre.

In Lagos, the reported price moved from ₦1,375 to ₦1,360 per litre.

However, petrol prices can differ between locations and individual retail outlets. The promotional ₦66 reduction should therefore not be interpreted as a permanent nationwide change to the underlying pump price.

NNPC expands digital fuel services

The Fuel App promotion is also part of NNPC Retail’s broader move towards digital and self-service fuel retailing.

In September, NNPC Retail unveiled a smart self-service station on Bill Clinton Drive, Airport Road, Abuja.

The facility allows customers to select the quantity of fuel required, make payments through a mobile application and dispense fuel themselves.

The company has said the smart station model can also incorporate other energy and mobility services, including electric-vehicle charging, liquefied petroleum gas and compressed natural gas.

The development reflects NNPC Retail’s effort to integrate technology into its downstream operations and provide customers with alternative ways of purchasing fuel.

Why the NNPC promotion matters

Fuel costs have a direct effect on motorists, commercial transport operators, businesses and households because petrol remains an important component of Nigeria’s transportation system.

A temporary ₦66-per-litre discount can reduce the immediate cost of fuel for eligible customers during the promotional period.

The campaign also provides NNPC Retail with an opportunity to increase adoption of its Fuel App and strengthen its digital relationship with customers.

However, the discount is time-limited and should not be confused with a permanent reduction in petrol prices.

What happens next

The NNPC ₦66 fuel discount promotion is expected to continue until October 7, 2026.

Customers wishing to participate should use the NNPC Fuel App and check the applicable terms of the promotion before completing their transactions.

The company is also expected to continue its digital retail initiatives, including the development of smart self-service stations and other technology-enabled services.

For motorists, the most important point is that the ₦66 reduction is a promotional offer running for a defined period rather than a permanent nationwide change in petrol pricing.
