Nigerian content creator and comedian Adebayo Ridwan Abidemi, popularly known as Isbae U, has revealed how he developed his interview series, “Curiosity Made Me Ask,” after deciding to move away from conventional skit-making.

Isbae U disclosed the story during an interview with media personality Morayo Afolabi-Brown on The Morayo Show, published on YouTube on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.

The creator said he had experimented with several forms of entertainment, including singing, rapping and acting, while trying to establish his identity in Nigeria’s fast-growing digital entertainment industry.

Isbae U Wanted Something Different

According to Isbae U, his decision to develop a new format came from a desire to distinguish himself from the growing number of Nigerian skit makers.

He said he reached a point where he no longer wanted to be known simply as another member of the skit-making community and began searching for an idea that would give him a distinct identity.

He explained that he was essentially trying to find himself creatively after experimenting with different forms of entertainment.

The search eventually led him to the concept that became “Curiosity Made Me Ask.”

Rather than reproducing the conventional celebrity interview format, Isbae U developed a programme built around unconventional questions, humour and interactions designed to reveal sides of guests that audiences may not normally see.

American Comedy Show Provided Inspiration

Isbae U said an American comedy programme provided the major inspiration for the format.

He identified “Between Two Ferns,” the interview series created and hosted by American comedian Zach Galifianakis, as the programme that helped him realise the type of show he could create.

He said he had watched the programme previously and liked its unusual approach to interviewing guests.

The concept showed him that an interview could combine conversation with comedy while deliberately moving away from the formal question-and-answer structure associated with traditional celebrity interviews.

Isbae U subsequently adapted the broader idea to his own style and Nigerian audience.

He also noted that although the American programme influenced his thinking, his own show had developed its own approach and scale.

The Idea Behind ‘Curiosity Made Me Ask’

Isbae U explained that the objective of his programme goes beyond simply asking famous people questions.

He said the show is designed to expose another side of public figures that viewers may not have previously seen.

This approach has become a defining feature of the programme, with guests placed in conversations that can move between humour, personal experiences and unexpected questions.

The programme has featured personalities from different parts of Nigerian public life, including actors, musicians, entertainers and other prominent figures.

Recent episodes have included veteran actors such as Pete Edochie and Femi Branch, while former President Olusegun Obasanjo also appeared on the programme in September 2026.

Obasanjo Appearance Expanded the Show’s Reach

Obasanjo’s appearance has become one of the most prominent episodes of the programme.

The former president appeared on “Curiosity Made Me Ask” on September 19, 2026, bringing an unusual combination of Nigeria’s political establishment and its younger digital entertainment culture into the same conversation.

The episode attracted attention partly because of the contrast between Obasanjo’s decades-long public career and Isbae U’s internet-driven comedy format.

The interview also included humorous exchanges about Nigerian popular culture, with Isbae U asking the former president whether he knew personalities such as Don Jazzy, Poco Lee and Carter Efe.

Obasanjo’s responses became part of the online conversation surrounding the episode.

Charly Boy Helped Connect Isbae U and Obasanjo

The Obasanjo episode also received attention after veteran entertainer Charly Boy disclosed that he helped connect the former president with Isbae U.

Charly Boy said he believed in giving younger Nigerians opportunities and facilitating access between generations.

He said Obasanjo’s willingness to participate in the unconventional programme demonstrated what could happen when established public figures engage with younger creators and their platforms.

The episode therefore became more than a conventional celebrity interview, highlighting the growing intersection between Nigeria’s established public figures and its creator economy.

Isbae U Says He Still Creates Behind the Scenes

Although “Curiosity Made Me Ask” has become a major part of Isbae U’s public profile, he said he has not completely abandoned other forms of content creation.

The content creator explained that some people mistakenly believe he has stopped creating content outside the interview programme.

According to him, he continues to write stories for other creators and contributes to projects behind the scenes.

He said he plans to continue developing different forms of content rather than limiting himself to a single creative format.

This suggests that the interview programme is part of a broader creative direction rather than a complete departure from Isbae U’s previous work.

From Skits to Long-Form Interviews

The evolution of “Curiosity Made Me Ask” reflects a wider change in Nigeria’s digital entertainment industry.

Content creators who initially built audiences through short-form skits are increasingly experimenting with podcasts, interviews, documentaries and other long-form formats.

These formats give creators opportunities to build deeper relationships with audiences while attracting guests who may not necessarily appear in conventional comedy sketches.

For Isbae U, the transition has allowed him to develop a format around conversations rather than relying exclusively on scripted skits.

The programme’s expanding guest list also demonstrates the potential for online creators to attract personalities from outside the traditional entertainment sector.

A Growing Nigerian Digital Interview Culture

Nigeria’s creator economy has developed rapidly as social media and video platforms have become major channels for entertainment and public conversation.

Programmes such as “Curiosity Made Me Ask” occupy a space between comedy, celebrity interviews and digital broadcasting.

Unlike traditional television interviews, online programmes can adopt more informal formats and reach audiences directly through platforms such as YouTube.

The flexibility of the format also allows creators to experiment with humour and unconventional questioning.

For viewers, this can provide access to public figures in settings that differ from formal television interviews or press conferences.

What Comes Next for the Show

Isbae U said he intends to continue creating content and exploring different ideas.

The programme’s recent episodes indicate that its guest list is continuing to expand, with personalities from entertainment and public life appearing on the show.

Apple Podcasts currently lists episodes featuring Obasanjo, Femi Branch, Pete Edochie, Yemi Solade, Deyemi Okanlawon and other Nigerian personalities.

As Isbae U continues developing the programme, the central concept remains rooted in his original desire to create something different from conventional skit-making.

His account of the show’s origins also shows how an idea inspired by an international comedy format was adapted into a Nigerian digital entertainment setting and developed into a platform featuring some of the country’s most recognisable personalities.
